It's so lovely to find Helene Schneiderman singing Bernstein's "I Am Easily Assimilated" with two charming back-up singers and pianist Nicholas Kok. It's part of a series from the Staatstheater Stuttgart that keeps us in touch with the Company during the pandemic.
Watch and listen here.
Helene has been a member of the Staatstheater Stuttgart since 1984, after she moved to Germany. She has also made several guest performances with major European and American companies, including Karlsruhe Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Seattle, and New York City Opera (where I saw her, in 1990, as a delightful Cherubino). She has recorded for several labels, including Deutsche Grammophon and Naxos, in opera, oratorio and lieder genres. In 1998, Helene was awarded the title of Kammersängerin by the City of Stuttgart. She was the youngest singer to have been given that honor. Brava, Helene!
Also in this Stuttgart series is tenor Kai Kluge's excellent rendering of Schumann's Dichterliebe. Watch it here.
