Jeannette Pilou made her Metropolitan Opera debut on very short notice, replacing Mirella Freni as Juliette in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette at a matinee performance on October 7th, 1967. Her Roméo was Franco Corelli.
In 1970, she and Corelli were again paired in the Gounod opera; this excerpt I recorded at one of their performances. Alain Lombard was the conductor, and the marvelous Jean Kraft sang Gertrude:

In 2009, I wrote a 'hommage' to Jeannette Pilou with lots of photos, including some I took of her backstage. I always think of her as one of the most extraordinarily beautiful women I ever met.
