Above: Seiko Fujita of Jennifer Muller/The Works
Tuesday June 9th, 2015 - Over the past few seasons I've spent some lovely hours watching Jennifer Muller/The Works rehearsing in their unique studio space on West 24th Street. This evening I dropped in to see a run-thru of Jennifer's newest work, ALCHEMY, which will be shown at New York Live Arts from June 16th thru 20th, 2015. ALCHEMY will share the stage with creations by Elisa Monte and Jacqulyn Buglisi.
ALCHEMY is a four-movement dancework about transformation, drawing inspiration from the concept of the four elements: Air, Fire, Earth and Water. Set to a three-composer musical collage - Kangding Ray, Andy Stott, and John Talabot - ALCHEMY alternates passages of vibrantly animated dance for the nine-member ensemble with moments of contemplative stillness.
