Monday March 17th, 2014 - Steps Repertory Ensemble will be participating in the REVERBdance Festival March 21st - 23rd, 2014 down at Baruch Performing Arts Center. Information and tickets here. Since I was previously committed for the dates of the performances, the Ensemble's artistic director Brad Shelver kindly invited me to stop in at a rehearsal today. Ravel's Bolero is the setting for Brad's 3114 BCE, a wild ensemble piece in which the movement is as relentless as the music. The dancers more with increasingly ferocious energy as the music surges forward on its long, inevitable crescendo; they even scream like savage beasts.
The other work to be shown at REVERBdance is Bradley's She and Him, Him and Her, He and I, Us and Them (excerpt) which was created in 2012. To music by Beethoven and Bach, two couples perform intense, intimate duets:
Carley Marholin and Aurèlien Peillex...
...and Gabriella Soto and Malik Kitchen.
