Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre open at BAM Fisher on September 4th, 2013 with performances continuing thru September 7th. Ticket information here.
Other commitments prevent me from attending their performances, but thanks to an invitation from Richard Chen See I was able to see a run-thru of Dušan's complete programme at the BAM Fisher studios last week. Three works are being presented: Stereopsis (with an original text by Cynthia Polutanovich) and Romanesco Suite are each having their world premieres at these performances; Base Pairs dates from 2010.
Dušan's choreography is organic, mythic, stylized, quirky and ritualistic - all at once. I really enjoyed watching his excellent troupe of dancers, each of them injecting a unique personality into the movement. Beneficial light in the studio allowed me to get some pretty good images, despite the fact that my skills are still not advanced enough to really capture the quality of motion.
