On Thursday May 31, 2012 Emery LeCrone presented an evening of her choreographic work at City Center Studio. Emery is one of three artists to receive the first City Center Choreography Fellowships; these year-long fellowships include a generous stipend in addition to rehearsal space in the City Center studios and a performance opportunity at City Center. Fellows also have full access to City Center’s administrative expertise in fundraising, finance, technology and marketing.
Emery's presentation showed off her both the range of her choreographic vision and her imaginative musical choices; the event also brought together an impressive array of Gotham's incredibly talented dancers. Since Kokyat and I were otherwise committed on the 31st, Emery invited us to her dress rehearsal on the previous evening where Kokyat photographed the proceedings.
Unchained Melodies was created by Emery LeCrone in 2012 for the Barnard University Dance Department. More about this dancework here.
