Monday April 30, 2012 - Being a devotee of Jessica Lang's choreography, I'm always glad of any opportunity to see her work. Tonight Kokyat and I went over to Marymount Manhattan College when the dance department were preparing for their upcoming performances of a programme which includes Jessica's LA BELLE DANSE along with works by Larry Keigwin, Mark Morris and others. Details here.
LA BELLE DANSE was created by Jessica Lang in 2007 for Richmond Ballet. This four-part ballet is set to glorious Baroque selections and danced by a cast of twelve. The choreography is superb, with each dancer or couple having moments in which to shine amid beautifully structured ensemble passages. The production was finely lit, and the young dancers performed with assurance; several lovely individual personalities stood out.
