Wednesday April 4, 2012 - One thing leads to another. My young dancer/friend Shannon MacDowell mentioned to me that she was performing with Tze Chun Dance Company and since I like any chance to see Shannon dancing, I arranged to watch a rehearsal today and I asked dancer/choreographer/photographer Norbert de la Cruz to come along and take some pictures for me.
Choreographer Tze Chun is a very young woman and a beautiful mover in her own right. I don't know if she plans to dance in her own work, but she's quite captivating to watch. For the past two seasons Tze Chun has had a residency at the Performing Arts Center of the Borough of Manhattan Community College down on Chambers Street. Today she was in one of the Center's two spacious theaters with three of her dancers.
Tze Chun is presently working on a piece entitled "Flatrock Wildfire" (Flatrock being the fictional town in the movie Andromeda Strain) which draws inspiration from apocalyptic science fiction films of the 1970s and is set to a specially-composed score by Richard Vagnino. The work will premiere later this year. Above, dancers Shannon MacDowell and Tony Bordonaro.

There are two more dancers involved in the piece who were not at today's rehearsal. I'll definitely be checking back with Tze in a few weeks to see how the work is developing.
