NOTE: You can support the FIVE POINTS Project here.
For the second time, the dancers of Takehiro Ueyama's TAKE Dance and the composers of PULSE join forces to present a programme of new dances set to new music. Among the final performances scheduled to take place at the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio before its pending closure, TAKE Dance and the PULSE composers collective re-unite for a three-night festival: FIVE POINTS, which takes its name from the five choreographers and the five composers who will participate. Here are the pairings:
Kristen Arnold with Joshua Shneider
Milan Misko with Jamie Begian
Takehiro Ueyama with Melissa Dunphy
Jill Echo with JC Sanford
Kile Hotchkiss with Joseph C. Phillips, Jr.

The five new creations will take synesthesia as a collective thread of influence; synesthesia is a relatively rare human condition in which one sense is inextricably linked to another ie. touch triggers sound. TAKE Dance and PULSE first collaborated in 2010 at Judson Memorial Church; for those danceworks, the common thread was the moon and all things lunar. The new project sets very different parameters which the choreographers are dealing with in various ways.
Kokyat and I are trying to see all five works in studio rehearsals; so far we've seen...
...Kristen Arnold's new creation...
...and Jill Echo's...
...and Kile Hotchkiss's. Kile, above, working with dancers Kristi Tornga and Lynda Senisi.
Kokyat and I will plan to see rehearsals of the new works by Milan Misko and Takehiro Ueyama in the next few days. Meanwhile, here are some more images from Jill Echo's piece :
