Wednesday Movember 9, 2011 - While I was at the opera tonight, photographer Nir Arieli went over to the City Center studios to photograph a rehearsal of the new solo Emery LeCrone is creating on Max van der Sterre (above) for the upcoming Young Choreographers Showcase. Details of these performances as well as ticket information here.
This solo is set to music of Kim Malmquist; since I haven't seen it yet I'll let Nir's images serve as an introduction:
Dancer and choreographer confer after a run-thru.
Max van der Sterre just finished performing with Henning Rubsam's SenseDance. Max looks great, his dancing clear, dynamic and spacious.
I'd seen Emery earlier today when Matt Murphy and I checked in with her at MMAC where she was working on another new male solo, this one set to Bach and danced by Richard Isaac for the upcoming Columbia Ballet Collaborative performances. Matt's photos will appear here soon.
Nir Arieli's photo of Emery LeCrone, above. Emery recently received some excellent news:
"Three choreographers have been chosen to take part in New York City Center’s inaugural Choreography Fellowship Program, a new initiative being launched in conjunction with the theater’s reopening season. The Fellowship will provide three choreographers at critical stages of their careers with a creative home at City Center for one year. The recipients are: Emery LeCrone, an emerging ballet choreographer; Andrea Miller, Artistic Director of Gallim Dance; and Shen Wei, Artistic Director of Shen Wei Dance Arts.
During each year-long fellowship, the choreographers will receive a generous stipend in addition to rehearsal space in the City Center studios and a performance opportunity at City Center. They will also have full access to City Center’s administrative expertise in fundraising, finance, technology and marketing."
