Tuesday August 3, 2010 - Kokyat and I made a spur-of-the-moment visit to MMAC this evening to watch Joy Womack, the 16-year-old American ballerina who trains at the Bolshoi, working in the studio with choreographer Avi Scher. Click on the above image to enlarge.
We arrived at the studio to find Joy warming up and had a chance to talk with her briefly before the rehearsal started; she displayed a wonderful mixture of youthful charm and seriousness of purpose. When she began to dance, the special qualities that have led her to the Bolshoi Ballet Academy were beautifully evident. Joy has been living and studying in Moscow since September 2009 and has been in New York City for the Academy's summer Intensive. She plans to dance the solo that Avi taught her at a gala in Moscow.

Joy is a talented dancer and the photos capture that. They capture the essence of a ballerina.
