Veronika Part & Arron Scott: Avi Scher's TOUCH

Sunday March 21, 2010 - From Chinatown we rushed up to the DANY Studios where Avi Scher was having rehearsals for his upcoming performances at Ailey Citigroup Theater (April 3rd - 5th). We arrived as Avi was working with ABT's Veronika Part and Arron Scott on his duet from TOUCH. Click on the above image to enlarge.

This duet was originally created on Ms. Part and Matthew Renko; Kokyat photographed them earlier this year. For the upcoming performances Arron Scott (above) assumes the male role and the piece takes on a very different dynamic.

Last weekend we watched Avi's dancers rehearsing his newest work, INNER VOICE, which will feature live music from Genevieve Labean and her band. Heading into the DANY studio today I finally met Genevieve in person for the first time. In addition to Veronika and Arron, dancers performing with Avi will be: Sara Mearns and Abi Stafford, both principal ballerinas of the New York City Ballet; ABT's Marcelo Gomes and Eric Tamm; Nancy Richer, Colby Damon, Jennifer Goodman, Victoria North, NYCBers Savannah Lowery, Christian Tworzyanski and Ralph Ippolito, Elizabeth Walker, Emily Cardena, Kelsey Coventry, Ja' Malik and Shane Ohmer. In addition to singing, Genevieve Labean will also be dancing. In addition to TOUCH, Veronika Part will appear in MYSTERY IN THE WIND. For Avi's new UTOPIA VARIATIONS, to be danced by Sara Mearns and Marcelo Gomes, pianist Melody Fader will play Rachmaninov live and NYCB's Janie Taylor designs the costumes.
