Quick item from the New York International Ballet Competition: American dancers Amber Neumann and John Mark Giragosian deservedly won the silver medals and I am delighted that Brazil's Ricardo Santos was awarded a one-year contract with The Joffrey as well as Men's Bronze.
Here's Kokyat's photo of Ricardo in class. I expect more (official) photos later today.
No gold medals were awarded this year, nor was the ABT contract. Details to follow.
I had the pleasure in attending the NYIB performance and Gala this evening. It was one of the most thrilling evenings I've ever spent as an audience member. These young performers from all over the world are truly the bright stars of tomorrow. They all gave brilliant performances. But the evening belonged to Brazil's RICARDO SANTOS! What an amazing young talent! His stellar performance was moving, intense, and emotionally breathtaking. Having seen it with my own eyes it was clear why he was chosen as the recipient of the Joffrey Ballet contract. Keep your eyes open, this young man has a long career ahead of him, and if I'm right I have no doubt he will be part of a new breed of dancers that will certainly turn the dance world on its head by leaps and bounds. BRAVO to all of this years competitors!

Congratulations to all of the dancers, those that won medals and contracts and those that didn't. They're all winners.

Hoping to have official photos from NYIBC soon!
Perky, Ricardo's perfect 5th helped propel him into the Joffrey. He's a really nice dancer with a great smile.
