City Lights Media announce the November 11, 2008 DVD release of BRINGING BALANCHINE BACK, the documentary about the New York City Ballet's 2003 visit to St. Petersburg and to the artistic birthplace of NYCB's founding genius, George Balanchine: the Mariinsky Theatre (above).
Kevin Kline narrates the film, shot on location at St. Petersburg, New York City and Saratoga Springs. Shown on PBS in 2006, the documentary features performance segments of several ballets, interviews with Peter Martins, Valery Gergiev (the Mariinsky's Artistic Director), Darci Kistler, Wendy Whelan, Benjamin Millepied, Alexandra Ansanelli and Jock Soto...among others. The DVD release promises additional special features not seen in the PBS airing. An advance copy is being sent to me and I will 'preview' it here very soon.
I can't wait to see this! I just pre-ordered it on Amazon. I look forward to reading your preview.
