Those were GREAT DAYS! Really wonderful distinctive personalities and a plethora of superb voices.

Philip

Yes, sadly...we are unlikely to see another such era.

Dmitry

According to people older than you you never did experience such an era. Everybody knows all the great voices died out around 1950!

George R. Weinhouse MD

1950: Are you kidding? What about Nilsson, Corelli, Tebaldi, Sutherland, Price, Bergonzi etc etc etc all of whom hit their peak way after 1950?

Philip

I think Dmitry is being ironic, but he has also forgotten how OLD I am and that I was in fact at Farinelli's London debut, at the cornerstone-laying ceremony at the Festspielhaus at Bayreuth (I'm still suffering the after-effects of that torrential cold rain!) and that I was sitting at that table that Nellie Melba backed her butt into during a recording session and said "Damn!" So I've seen a heck of a lot of Golden Ages; but frankly, I think they're over.

Unbelievable! You've seen it all, Phil! Beautiful pictures of a wonderful artist--Jeannette Pilou.
