Last summer at the US Open, Wei and I were really impressed by the Belgian player Steve Darcis who emerged from the qualifying matches and then gave Tommy Haas some worries before Haas prevailed. Steve won his first title at Amersfoort, the Netherlands, in July and now he has reached the final at the Memphis Tennis Championship where he faces the Swede Robin Soderling. Soderling trounced Andy Roddick on his way to the final and he is a formidable opponent. Meanwhile, Steve's successes are helping him work his way up the rankings. He's a player to watch in coming seasons and we look forward to seeing him at the US Open in August.
UPDATE: Steve won in straight sets: 6-3, 7-6. With this win Steve leaps into the top 50 for the first time in his career. They're celebrating over at Tennis Belge, where Steve left the following message for his fans:
"MERCI A TOUS POUR VOS ENCOURAGEMENTS....CA FAIT ENORMEMENT PLAISIR ET SURTOUT BEAUCOUP DE BIEN DE SE SENTIR SOUTENU COMME CA...MERCI A TOUS ET A BIENTOT...STEVE"
