The dust has settled after the Qualifying rounds; of the players I particularly admired, only Alejandro Falla got thru. The draws are now established and tournament begins tomorrow. I can see from the schedule of play that I will be rushing from court to court; luckily Paradorn's match is much earlier than Bjorn Phau's. But the rest of the day I will have to cover a lot of territory to see the people I want to see.
Of course the big news at this Open is the retirement of Andre Agassi. Most likely I won't even get near his first match since "my" players will be active on the outer courts. After watching Lindsay Davenport struggle and retire from the Pilot Pen final yesterday, I would not bet any money on her playing the US Open.
I guess it's a safe assumption that Federer will win; with the women it is not quite that clear-cut. I'm going to predict Sharapova - if she can keep her focus.
