New York City Ballet have announced that the Company will present a world premiere by NYCB dancer and choreographer Justin Peck (above) as part of the Company’s annual New Combinations Evening on Friday, January 31, 2013.
The Peck ballet will replace a previously-announced world premiere by NYCB Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins to a commissioned score by the acclaimed French composer Marc-André Dalbavie. The Dalvabie/Martins premiere has been postponed to provide more time for the composer to complete his original score for New York City Ballet; the Martins ballet will now premiere during NYCB’s 2014 winter season.
Justin Peck, who at 25 is one of the youngest choreographers ever commissioned by New York City Ballet, thus will be premiering his third work for the Company in a period of just six months. His new ballet will be set to Sinfonietta LaJolla by the 20th-century Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů.
