On June 27th, photographer Matt Murphy and I were invited to the dress rehearsal for Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance's Summer Salon and Soiree at the Chelsea Art Museum. With the early-evening light streaming into the large gallery, we were swept into the world of Ms. Lavagnino's lyrical choreography, radiantly danced by her young artists and enhanced by the playing of a Toru Takemitsu score by the Monadnock Music Ensemble.
For her Soiree, Ms. Lavagnino was presenting four works with the dancing taking place in various areas of the museum's upper galleries. When we arrived, dancers Ramona Kelley and Josh Palmer (above, with the choreographer observing) were running thru the duet to the Takemitsu score. Matt began shooting right away, taking advantage of the light seeping into the space from over the Hudson River.

The pas de deux for Ramona and Josh ends, but the music continues. The dancers quietly went off to change and the actual dress rehearsal was ready to commence.
