Oberon's Grove: Dancing for Avi: Veronika Part

Kokyat was so happy to have an opportunity to photograph the inimitable Veronika Part again. The ballerina will be dancing in two of Avi Scher's works for Avi's performances at Ailey Citigroup April 3rd - 5th. She will dance the duet in TOUCH with Arron Scott and in MYSTERY IN THE WIND with Marcelo Gomes. Veronika, Arron and Marcelo are all on the ABT roster and they are part of a brilliant ensemble that Avi has drawn together for his Ailey performances.

It's one thing to watch Veronika Part dancing at the Met - her extraordinary performance as Nikiya in LA BAYADERE in June 2008 was a revelation - but quite another to be in a studio where she is working. If poetry can be made visible then Veronika's is a unique poetic 'voice'. She is mysterious and elegant yet also wonderfully human. There never seems to be any calculation in her dancing, just a natural flow and fluency that is truly captivating.
