During the New York City's recent visit to Paris, Faye Arthurs was featured on the cover of FigaroScope, a weekly guide to events in Paris (it's part of the celebrated newspaper Le Figaro). Monica so very thoughtfully brought a copy back for Wei and me, since Faye is one of our NYCB favorites. The picture is worth a thousand words, so here it is!
Today (Wednesday) my friend Lisette and I happened to stop in the State Theatre lobby and of course they were showing NUTCRACKER (the film) on the plasma screens; she'd never seen it before. So we watched most of Act II and she asked me about each dancer: Lourdes Lopez, Nilas Martins, Gen Horiuchi, Wendy Whelan, Tom Gold, Margaret Tracey, Kyra Nichols, Darci Kistler and Damian Woetzel. Of course since we are now in NYCB starvation mode, watching it just made me all the more anxious for November 25th to get here. I love Lisette for lots of reasons but one thing I especially love about her is, she gets teary over things she likes. She adores the music for Waltz of the Flowers and while watching Kyra she kept dabbing her eyes. Then I got misty too. What a couple of babies we are.
We saw several of the dancers today: Janie Taylor and Sebastian Marcovici (Kolnik photo in LA VALSE above), Justin Peck, Tess Reichlen and Likolani Brown. It's good knowing New York City Ballet are back in town and getting ready for the season.
I can't wait for Nutcracker! It's always fun seeing the casting...maybe we will have a debut Sugar Plum or Dewdrop this year....

I have a wish list for each NUTCRACKER role...it's always fun to see new people trying out the various parts. I usually go 5-6 times each Winter.

Even though we've been blessed with a lot of wonderful ballet here in NYC this fall
(Morphoses, SFB, and now ABT), I got a pang in the heart when I read this post.
I miss NYCB so much! I'm counting the days until the gala performance next month.
